Lindiwe Dovey is a writer, researcher, teacher, film curator and filmmaker. She is Professor of Film and Screen Studies at SOAS University of London, where she has been on the faculty since 2007. From 2019-2025 she was the leader of the major research project “African Screen Worlds: Decolonising Film and Screen Studies” (www.screenworlds.org), which was supported through a 2 million-euro grant from the European Research Council; this project brought together an international team to try to make Screen Studies and the film industry more globally representative and equitable. Lindiwe’s most recent films – Out of the Box (2023) and From One Woman to Another (2023) – are about two African women filmmakers (Judy Kibinge and Bongiwe Selane) who have been inspirational leaders and mentors to others (the films are available to view for free on the Screen Worlds website).
