Martina Amati

BAFTA award-winning filmmaker

Martina Amati, born in Italy, is a film director and artist based in Devon and London. Her work delves into human limits, strength, and fragility, often set in underwater worlds. A graduate of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan, Amati moved to London to work with MTV Europe. Her short dramas won a BAFTA (“I Do Air,” 2010), a Unicef Award and BAFTA/LA Special Mention (“A’Mare,” 2009), and she received another BAFTA nomination along with winning a BIFA for “Chalk” (2012).  With a Wellcome Trust Large Arts Award, she created “Under,” a multiple screen installation entirely filmed and performed underwater with one breath of air, featuring herself and other women freedivers. Amati is currently completing a new performance-based film piece.
